During the 4th Latvian competition of sommeliers following wine experts have been nominated as the best ones: Raimonds Tomsons, Janis Kalkis, Aleksejs Tatarinovs and Irina Semochkina. The winner of this competition, Raimonds Tomsons, was awarded the rights to represent Latvia in international competitions of sommeliers – in Baltic, Europe and world competition in Chile. Latvian Association of Sommeliers awarded him also with bonus trip to the Loire wine making region in France.

On 24th and 25th of October 2008 the Baltic Sommelier Championship Vana Tallinn Grand Prix took place in Lithuania’s capital Vilnius, where Latvian representative Raimonds Tomsons (restaurant “Vincents”) snatched the victory in hard battle. Second place went to Kristian Marki (restaurant “Balthasar), Estonia, but third was another Latvian, Janis Kalkis (Jurmala Spa Hotel).
